This project combined driveway expansion, structural retaining wall construction, interlocking patio installation, sod replacement, garden bed preparation, planting, and concrete curbing to create a durable outdoor landscape designed for long-term performance in the GTA climate.

Careful Demolition & Site Preparation

The project began with selective demolition and disposal of existing curbing and a garden bed near the garage to prepare the site for the new driveway extension and landscape layout.

Proper removal and cleanup ensured a clean working surface and allowed the new construction to integrate seamlessly with the existing property features.

Interlocking Driveway Extension

To improve functionality and curb appeal, the driveway was expanded with new interlocking pavers across approximately 120 sq. ft., plus an additional small section where the garden bed was removed.

Construction included:

• 8–10 inches of excavation and soil removal
• Installation of a fully permeable 3/4″ clear stone base for drainage
• Landscape fabric separation layer
• High-performance bedding layer for precision leveling
• Installation of 70–80 mm interlocking pavers
• Polymeric joint sand, edge restraint, and full site cleanup

This engineered base structure provides a long-lasting, freeze-thaw-resistant driveway surface suitable for Toronto conditions.

Concrete Curbing & Front Garden Enhancements

New reinforced concrete curbing was formed and poured to match the existing curb profile, including 10 mm rebar reinforcement for durability and structural integrity.

In addition, a new front garden bed was excavated and filled with triple-mix planting soil, followed by the installation of boxwood plantings to create a clean, low-maintenance landscape feature near the entrance.

Structural Backyard Retaining Wall Construction

A major component of this project was the construction of an approximately 80-linear-foot retaining wall reaching up to 40 inches in height to properly manage grade changes in the backyard.

This engineered wall system included:

• Reinforced concrete footing with rebar spacing at 16″ on center
• Structural block wall laid in brick pattern
• Vertical rebar doweled into the footing and concrete-filled block cores
• Integrated drainage system with weeping tile, clear stone backfill, and geotextile wrap
• Professional parged sponge finish for a clean appearance
• Backfilling to finished grade with topsoil

The retaining wall provides critical structural support, erosion control, and expanded usable yard space.

Precast Steps & Stone Coping

To enhance accessibility and visual continuity:

• Precast concrete entrance steps were installed with consistent run and rise dimensions for safe entry.
• Stone-look coping (12″ × 24″ units) was installed along the full retaining wall length, creating a finished architectural edge and cohesive design.

New Sod Installation –Front & Backyard

The property received new Kentucky bluegrass sod in both the backyard (approx. 554 sq. ft.) and front yard (approx. 260 sq.ft.), including grading, topsoil preparation, sod laying, and rolling for proper root contact.

This restored healthy green lawn coverage and completed the overall landscape transformation.

Backyard Interlock Patio Construction

A new approximately 500-sq.-ft.interlocking paver patio was installed in the backyard using Oaks Nueva 60 mm pavers to match the front hardscape.

Installation included:

• 7–9 inches of excavation and removal of soil
• Compacted crushed stone base
• High-performance bedding layer
• Precision paver installation with 1% slope for drainage
• Polymeric joint sand, edge restraint, and full cleanup

The result is a durable outdoor living surface ideal for seating, dining, and entertaining.
